Training Videos

A training video is any video that has been made for the purpose of training or teaching. Training videos can be used for any type of training in any industry. Although large companies usually have several training DVDs made as teaching aids, even smaller companies have found them indispensable in communicating important and relevant information to new staff or to existing staff about new methodologies or equipment.

In particular, industrial and mining companies make use of training videos because languages can be adjusted and the multi-media context of the lesson can surpass communication barriers. Training videos run parallel with Health & Safety videos and are often dealt with and referred in a similar manner.

Advantages

  • A good training video is “re-usable” for as long as its information remains relevant.
  • If properly constructed, a good training video will be designed so that it can be broken up into a DVD format and displayed per module/section.
  • A training video minimizes the need for additional training tools such as white boards, posters and projectors.
  • The main benefit of training in video format is that videos are more memorable, as they command the attention of students for longer. They also have the ability to list bullet points while physically illustrating good & bad behaviour by using “real-life” scenarios.
  • Training videos aid the learning process by giving the student the opportunity to review the video whenever, and as many times as is necessary to ensure they have an adequate understanding of the task, product or process.
  • Training videos make use of visual and audio learning; learners thus have a greater chance of retaining the information due to the combination of both learning stimuli.
  • Training videos are also cost-effective because a single comprehensive training course can be created and reused without the need of a lecturer.
